Islamic centres in Europe have a crucial role in providing accurate prayer times, a fundamental aspect of Islam. Since its founding in 2000 (1420 Hijri), Taybah Islamic Centre in Leicester has prioritized an accurate prayer calendar based on correct Islamic foundations. While many Islamic centres rely on widely used calendars like the Muslim World League or ISNA calendars, discrepancies arise for locations above the 55th parallel north which includes Leicester, particularly for Isha and Fajr prayers. Different calendars use varying degrees (18, 15, or others) to determine these prayer times, leading to significant variations among mosques, with some even combining Maghrib and Isha due to difficulties in observing Isha’s start time. To address this, Taybah Centre formed its own committee to investigate Isha prayer times. Based on their findings, consultations with UK astronomical centres, and comparisons with the research carried out by their own committee at the Al-Risala Centre in Sheffield’s, the Taybah Centre prayer calendar was established. Recently, with new developments emerging, including the Islamic Fiqh Council forming a committee to investigate prayer times in Northern European countries and create a specific calendar, Taybah Centre’s Dawa and Fatwa committee is currently reviewing these developments and will announce any changes, if found, by the end of this year in sha Allah. May Allah سبحانه وتعالى guide everyone to what He loves and is pleased with.
